A connexion to water
Even though I discovered freediving 5 years ago, I’ve always had a strong connexion to water. I was born in Belgium from a triathlete dad and a sports teacher mum, who taught me to swim when I was 4 years old. I left the swimming pools and the competitions when I was 17, when I finally realized that there were other things to experience in life.
After that, I got super lucky to go to Australia for a year through the Youth Exchange Program by Rotary, and to later graduate from a master’s degree in physiotherapy at the Université de Liège.
After a few years working in Belgium, I returned to my adopting country and discovered freediving in Australia. A few months later, I took part in my first competition and set my first national record. I got completely hooked. So addicted that freediving started to rule my life. I left for the Philippines for a year, where I became an instructor. Competitions followed one another and so did the national records too. I took the big decision to move to the South of France for 3 years, one of the very few places that allows me to work as a physio and to train in the sea at the same time.
Over there I’ve evolved by the sides of some of the greatest freedivers in the world, in the freediving cradle that is Nice, France.
Performances
My specialty is Constant Weight No Fins. Renowned to be the hardest discipline, it requires you to go down (and up!) only thanks to your arms and legs, no tools or fins allowed. My background as a competitive swimmer has helped me to rise among the best freedivers in the world and to become Vice-World Champion at the 2024 World Championships.
- Belgian National Records holder in all 4 depth disciplines since 2019 :
- CWT (constant weight monofin, -76m)
